PM Urges Military Modernization for Self-Defense

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Manet stressed the need for Cambodia’s military to modernize, saying that previous military strategies will not hold up to the threats of modern warfare.

Speaking at the 25th Anniversary the Army Command on January 24, the PM said that modern war involves drones, spy satellites, and an increase in weapons technology, which means the military must increase its capacity and modernize its strategies.

The PM, however, also asked the military to use its first-hand experience in transferring strategy to the next generation.

He stressed that Cambodia has no ambitions to invade other countries, but that it has the right to modernize its military to defend itself.
